Wossamotta University ENGR 100 - Introduction to Engineering
Course Summary: Students are enabled to analyze a real-world problem, apply an appropriate design process, and report a solution to a target audience.
Course objectives:
- Formulate real-world engineering problems in technical, societal, and financial contexts.
- Implement the tools and skills provided by different engineering disciplines in the solution off design problems.
- Utilize industrial- and research-related software tools to solve engineering problems.
- Articulate solutions to engineering problems through oral and written communication methods.
- Assess the broader implications of designs in a global and societal context.

- Grand Challenges of Engineering
- Oral Communication Skills - One Minute Engineer activity - use of rubrics and peer assessment
- Criteria and Constraints - Tower of Straws activity - introduction of realistic constraints and decision matrices
- Teamwork - reflection on (unstructured) Tower of Straws activity
- Written Communication Skills, 1: emails, memos, letters, tables, figures
- Engineering Design Method
- End of Term Team Competition - includes evaluation of designs, product performance, oral presentation, written report, etc.
